BINH THUAN PROVINCE BOOSTS EXPORTING DRAGON FRUIT (PITAYA)

At current, Binh Thuan Province contents over 27000 ha of agricultural land for planting Dragon Fruit. It is larger 4 times more than itself 10 years ago (7000 ha). Binh thuan is also the largest source of Dragon Fruit in Vietnam, and takes 86% of total Dragon Fruit production nationwide.
There are 9500 ha of Dragon Fruit is certified Viet GAP, 262 ha is certified Global GAP. In this province, there are also 54 enterprises and establishments, meeting the export standard and food safety, are dealing with exporting dragon fruit.
However, since 2008, the analysis shows that the sum of exported dragon fruit just reaches 11000-13000 tons per year (2-3% of total quantity).  This is separated into 70% for Asia market, 20% for Europe market, 6% for America market, and 4% for Australia market. 15% of Dragon Fruit is sold in local market. 82-83% of left quantity is sold as border trade to China market.
To improve, Binh Thuan province has set a new direction in 2018 which is raising the value of dragon fruit. The main task is to continue the push Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit to reach markets further to the northern and central areas; apply new science and technological application for products and continue to increase export quantity.
Binh Thuan’s Department of Industry and Trade said in a trade promotion plan in 2018 that it would continue to support businesses and farmer to participate in trade fairs to promote and seek partners and expand export markets to Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and countries that have signed Free Trade Agreements with Vietnam.
